In life, there are some very special people who enter your life for a brief time and leave memories that will last a lifetime. Yokomichi Yonosuke is such a person. Based on the award-winning novel by Yoshida Shuichi, The Story of Yonosuke chronicles a year in the life of a very special young man through the perspectives of those he touched. Kora Kengo (Norwegian Wood) gives the performance of his career as the bright, cheerful and sometimes socially inept titular character. Director/co-scriptwriter Okita Shuichi drops the deadpan humor he used in The Chef of South Polar and Woodsman and the Rain with a genuinely touching film that’s also a little bittersweet.

In 1987, 18 year old Yokomichi Yonosuke (Kora Kengo) moves to Tokyo to attend university. His cheerful and earnest nature quickly helps him become friends with two classmates. His persistence and lack of tact help him bond with cool, fashionable Kato (Ayano Go). Through Kato, Yonosuke also meets Shoko (Yoshitaka Yuriko), an eccentric rich girl who falls head over heels for Yonosuke. From his friends’ points of view, we see moments from what would become the most important year in Yonosuke’s life, as well as the unforgettable memories that still live in his friends’ minds over two decades later..
