Almost three years after topping rating charts and winning five awards at the Golden Bell Awards, hit Taiwanese television drama Black & White is making an explosive jump to the big screen! Co-written and directed by original creator Tsai Yueh Hsun, The Dawn of Assault takes fans back to events before the series, when young loose cannon cop Ying Xiong begins to build his reputation as a serious, rule-breaking crime fighter. Specifically, the film covers a complex case involving the mob, a weapon of mass destruction, and a conspiracy that can lead Harbor City and its neighbor to an all-out war. Tsai and his producers spared no expenses to bring the epic prequel to the big screen, to the point of shipping a real 747 jet to Taiwan just to film its exciting climax.

In addition to Mark Chao returning as Ying Xiong, The Dawn of Assault features new cast members Huang Bo (Crazy Racer), Angelababy (First Time), Alex To, Soler, Leon Dai (Reign of Assassins), and Terri Kwan (Prince of Tears).

Before he teams up with coffee-drinking cop Pi Zi, Ying Xiong (Mark Chao) was an overzealous cop out to stop criminals at any cost. After his latest arrest causes major damage to the city, his supervisor forces him to undergo psychological evaluation. Meanwhile, small-time gangster Ta Fu (Huang Bo) is looking to leave the criminal life and plans to make a quick profit by buying a diamond with the gang’s money. However, a sudden raid interrupts the deal, and Ta Fu is arrested by Ying Xiong, who is investigating another case against his superior’s orders. Now, the two must team up to find out the truth behind the diamond deal with the help of a mysterious woman (Angelababy) – even when Ta Fu’s gang, Ying Xiong’s superiors, and the terrorists behind the conspiracy are all after them.
