Chang Cheh, Hong Kong’s legendary director who made over 100 films at Shaw Brothers, created a special aesthetics for martial arts movies in the 1960s and 70s. The manifestation of pure masculinity has almost become his signature style. His films also established a charismatic swordsman image for actors like David Chiang, Ti Lung, and Chen Kuan Tai. In Four Riders (1972), these three famous actors team up with Wong Chung to play, instead of ancient swordsmen, four martial arts experts who live in Seoul after the Korean War in the 1950s.
