Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung, now internationally famed action stars, collaborated to make Heart of Dragon in 1986. Apart from the stunning action that normally appears in their movies, Heart of Dragon also has some touching moments when it comes to depicting the brotherhood between a cop (Jackie Chan) and his mentally challenged brother (Sammo Hung). Sammo Hung received a Best Director nomination and Jackie Chan got a Best Actor nomination for Heart of Dragon at the 5th Hong Kong Film Awards.
Films starring Jackie Chan and Sammo are often hard-boiled action or action comedies. However, Heart of Dragon, with its touching moments especially in the first half of the film, may be regarded as an unprecedented attempt of blending comedy, action, and melodrama. The film Rainman made three years later features a similar plot but without the action part. The movie follows a cop named Tat (Jackie Chan) who has always wanted to work as a sailor but he stays in the police force so as to have more time for his brother (Sammo Hung). Just when Tat prepares to quit his job, his brother gets involved in a robbery and is kidnapped….
