The 3/11 disaster in northeastern Japan brings a broken family back together in Homeland, the directorial debut of documentary director Kubota Nao. Matsuyama Kenichi (Death Note) stars as Jiro, a Fukushima native who left his hometown years ago. After his hometown became part of the evacuated area following the nuclear power plant disaster, Jiro returns to the town and rebuilt his home by farming it. Meanwhile, Jiro’s family his unemployed half-brother Soichi, his prostitute sister-in-law Misa and his stepmother (Tanaka Yuko) remain outside the evacuated area in temporary housing in a miserable existence. Soon, the family reunites to trace back what drove Jiro out of home in the first place and the role their late father played in their lives. Produced with the assistance of director Kore-eda Hirokazu, Homeland had its world premiere in the Panorama section of the 2014 Berlin Film Festival..
