1942, Japanese occupied Shanghai. Premiering at the 2007 Venice Film Festival, the film earned Ang Lee his second Golden Lion Award, the first being for Brokeback Mountain, while also receiving notices for its exacting detail, sumptuous period setting, powerful performances from Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Tang Wei, and finally its explicit love scenes. The film was branded with an NC-17 rating in North America due to nudity and graphic sexual situations, but the material is integral to the film, revealing the characters at perhaps their most emotionally vulnerable and exposed. Also starring Asian-American actress Joan Chen, and featuring an exquisite score from French composer Alexandre Desplat, Lust, Caution is a powerful and uncompromising work from one of the world’s most accomplished modern filmmakers.

After seven long years, Arashi once again returns to the silver screen as a unit in PIKANCHI LIFE IS HARD tabun HAPPY! The idol group picks up the thread on the PIKANCHI film series, which began in 2002 and spawned two movies prior to this one. Developed from a story by V6’s Inohara Yoshihiko, the series began with a group of five young men living in the same Tokyo apartment complex navigating through their teenage years together. The second film, released in 2004, caught up with the five friends, now in their twenties, as they struggled to transition into adulthood. With this 2014 installment, labeled the 2.5 entry in the series by Arashi’s members and made to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the boy band’s debut, we take a peek into the lives of Haru (Ohno Satoshi), Chu (Sakurai Sho), Shun (Aiba Masaki), Takuma (Ninomiya Kazunari) and Bon (Matsumoto Jun) a decade after we last saw them.

Now in their 30s, the erstwhile ragtag neighborhood friends are each dealing with his own work and family concerns, which include, among others, infidelity, disagreements over child-rearing methods and struggling businesses. The four who have remained in Japan get together to catch up, and are eventually joined by the globetrotting Takuma. As it turns out, there’s a special reason for this reunion….

Yukisada Isao, the director of Crying Out Love, In The Center Of The World returns with another heart-breaking melodrama of epic proportions. When the Prince proposes and the engagement is blessed by the Emperor himself, it seems that any hope of the couple being together is lost, but it is this moment that Kiyoaki chooses to finally act on his feelings for Satoko. But is he too late? Will he be able to break off her engagement without upsetting and disgracing all the families involved? And what other dark clouds loom on the horizon?
