Australia-based director Clara Law (The Goddess of 1967) returns to the Chinese film world with Like a Dream. The film immediately made a splash, earning nine nominations at the 2009 Golden Horse Awards, including Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Leading Actor, Best Leading Actress, and Best Original Screenplay. It was also designated the opening film of the 2010 Hong Kong International Film Festival. Exploring themes of dream and reality, the suspenseful tale stars popular Hong Kong actor Daniel Wu opposite charming Mainland singer/actress Yolanda Yuan Quan as two unrelated persons brought together by a dream.

Young Chinese-American Max (Daniel Wu) has suffered from depression ever since the death of his mother, leading him to stay shut inside his New York residence all the time. One day, he dreams of himself being high-spirited and speaking fluent Mandarin. In the dream, he meets a Chinese girl named Ailing (Yolanda Yuan) in an anonymous city, where they witness the suicide of her boyfriend and later fall in love with each other. The dream makes the waking hours without Ailing almost unbearable, so Max sets off for Shanghai to find his dream lover, only to meet a girl who looks identical to Ailing but has the opposite personality. Is it fate… or is it fake?.
