Hans Christian Anderson’s classic fairy tale The Little Mermaid gets reinterpreted for Chinese audiences in Kao Li’s The Mermaid, a fun-filled Shaw Brothers produced, Huangmei opera. Released in 1964, this mythical tale centers on a scholar named Zhang Zhen (Ivy Ling Po) who finds himself taken in by a high official (Yang Chi Ching) after the death of his beloved parents. Soon enough, Zhang Zhen falls in love with his benefactor’s attractive, but haughty daughter, Peony (Li Ching). However, there are two problems preventing a union between the two. For one, her father simply won’t approve of the match, and even more importantly, Peony has no interest in Zhang as a suitor to begin with!

Stuck inside with nothing to do but study for exams, Zhang tries to brighten his spirits by feeding fish in a nearby pond. On one fateful day, a carp transforms itself into a beautiful woman (also played by Li Ching) who just so happens to resemble Peony! Plenty of misunderstandings and misadventures ensue when this lovely Carp Spirit tries to adapt to life on the surface! Who will Zhang choose – his first love, Peony or the vivacious mermaid? Director Benny Chan’s The White Storm celebrates the brotherhood and camaraderie of three policeman played by three of Hong Kong’s most sought-after actors Lau Ching Wan, Louis Koo and Nick Cheung. Deploying ferries and helicopters for its magnificent action scenes, the big-budget crime blockbuster is jam-packed with cinematically appealing and perfectly designed gunfire exchanges, car crashes and explosions. Returning with his first full-length film since 2005’s Seven Swords, Hong Kong Cinema master Tsui Hark writes, produces, and directs the genre-arching supernatural drama Missing. A scuba diving trip turns into a nightmare when psychiatrist Gao Jing (Angelica Lee) and her boyfriend Guo Dong (Guo Xiaodong) meet tragedy at sea. Suffering from memory loss after the incident, Gao Jing can’t remember what exactly happened in the ocean that day, and all that is recovered of Guo Dong is a headless corpse. Upset that Gao Jing is going ahead with the funeral, Guo Dong’s sister Xiao Kai (Isabella Leong) angrily sets out to find her brother’s head. Gao Jing looks for closure through therapy but only ends up with more questions and heartache. When her patient Simon (Chang Chen) claims that he can see Guo Dong’s ghost, Gao Jing seeks his guidance to open her eyes and mind to the other side. Soon she’s seeing visitors of all sorts, but no Guo Dong. At this time, a strangely eerie Xiao Kai suddenly returns to Hong Kong with her brother’s head. But is it really Guo Dong’s head that Xiao Kai has brought back?.
