To emulate the success of the 2001 drama Country Spirit, producer Wong Wai Sing (Square Pegs) assembled an excellent cast toplined by Bowie Lam (in his final TVB drama), Sunny Chan, Linda Chung, and Nancy Sit for TVB’s new winery drama River of Wine. Set in the famous Chinese winery town Jiujiang in Foshan, Guangdong at the end of the Qing dynasty, the 25-episode series is based on true stories and depicts the ups and downs of two winemaker families and their complex and intertwined relations. Pierre Ngo, Elena Kong, Sire Ma, Lau Kong, Cilla Kung, Alex Lam, and Evergreen Mak co-star in this absorbing period drama.

Twenty years ago, Leung Ching Yiu (Bowie Lam) agreed to sever ties with his family and become the adopted son of Master Sung, the wealthy proprietor of Jiujiang’s biggest winery who lost his only son in an accident. Yiu only did this to get his family out of poverty and protect his mother Madam Leung (Nancy Sit), but his decision infuriated his younger brother Leung Ching Hong (Sunny Chan), who went on to prove himself by establishing his own winery. Over the years, Yiu has kept his promise to take care of the wine business and his disabled stepsister Sung Chi Ching (Linda Chung). A storm is brewing when Sung Chi Chun (Pierre Ngo) – the long-lost son of the Sungs thought to be dead – returns home all of a sudden to claim his rightful place as the heir of the wine business….
