Mulan director Jingle Ma transforms three top actresses of Chinese cinema into a different type of action heroines in Speed Angels! Tang Wei (Wu Xia), Rene Liu (Starry Starry Night), and Cecilia Cheung (Legendary Amazons) literally put pedal to the metal in the inspiring racing actioner playing female motorcar racers whose friendship, love, and glory collide on the racetracks. Pop idol-turned-racer Jimmy Lin, who also serves on the crew as the consultant on racing techniques, is among the star-studded cast which also includes Korean actor Justin Han Jae Suk, Japan’s Kitamura Kazuki and Tanaka Chie, plus veteran actors Jiang Wu and Cheng Pei Pei.
Han Bing (Rene Liu) and You Mei (Cecilia Cheung) used to be the star racers of the Speed Angels racing team. Unfortunately, the best friends turned into worst enemies when Bing found that Mei had stolen her fianc Asano (Kitamura Kazuki) from her. Since their bitter falling-out, Mei has left the team, and Bing has been struggling to recover from her personal failure, her racing records soon surpassed by young teammate Sanoka (Tanaka Chie). A year later, coach Gao Feng (Justin Han) attempts to revive the Speed Angels for the first Asian Heroine Rally, and he recruits talented cab driver (and tai chi practitioner) Hong Xiaoyi (Tang Wei) to join the team. But Xiaoyi must first undergo a vigorous training regime devised by trainer Joe (Jimmy Lin) before she can partner with Bing and possibly stand a chance against the rival Sakura team, now led by “Drifting Queen” Sanoka and You Mei!.
