Hong Kong director Dante Lam takes audiences on a journey into a disturbed mind in psychological thriller That Demon Within. In one of his most challenging roles to date, Daniel Wu stars as a righteous policeman who becomes consumed by evil when he unwittingly saves a ruthless criminal, played by Nick Cheung. A considerable change of pace from entertaining action dramas like Beast Stalker and Unbeatable, That Demon Within sees Lam bravely stepping into a new artistic territory as he explores a dark side that lives within all of us in this unrelentingly dark and always gripping film. That Demon Within had its world premiere at the Panorama section of the Berlin Film Festival and was the closing film of the 2014 Hong Kong International Film Festival.
Dave (Daniel Wu) is a by-the-books police officer who is assigned to hospital duty. When Han (Nick Cheung) is brought in one day from a serious traffic accident, Dave agrees to save Han’s life by giving him an urgent blood transfusion. However, the policeman discovers afterwards that Han is actually a ruthless criminal who has killed cops and commits daring daytime heists with his cohorts in the Demon Gang. Soon, Dave finds himself haunted by what he has done, especially after hearing that Han has escaped police custody. Suffering from hallucinations and memories of a trauma in his past, Dave sets out to find Han and stop the Demon Gang before he goes mad.
