As classic as kung-fu films get, The 36 Deadly Styles is a period kung-fu film full of the laughs and high-kicking action the genre is renowned for! Wong Ching Lee is a silver-haired kung-fu baddie who groups with some ruthless fighters to get their hands on the 36 Deadly Styles Manual, a martial arts handbook that could upset the balance of the World of Martial Arts. When young Wah Jee (Cheung Lik) learns that these brigands are the same ones that killed his father, he’s drawn into the conflict. But the bad guys are also after pretty Tsui Jee (Jeannie Chang) and her father (Fan Mei Sheng), so the three go into hiding. There’s only one course of action: for Wah Jee to learn the 36 Deadly Styles himself, and take on the bad guys to gain revenge for his father! A tried-and-true plotline, unmistakably cool kung-fu action, and entertaining dialogue all combine to make director Joseph Kuo’s The 36 Deadly Styles a standout martial arts flick in the classic seventies mold!.
