Four years in the making, The Tibetan Dog is the highly anticipated Japan-China co-production created by the renowned Madhouse animation studio. The animated feature is handled by director Kojima Masayuki (Monster) and producer Maruyama Masao (Summer Wars) based on the best-selling novels by Yang Zhijun and the original character artworks by manga artist Urasawa Naoki (20th Century Boys). The voice cast notably features alan, a Japan-based Chinese singer of Tibetan descent, who also sings the theme song.

An official selection at the 2011 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, the film follows young boy Tian Jing, who moves to Tibet to live with his estranged father after his mother passes away. One day, Jing rescues a golden-haired Tibetan Mastiff and decides to keep him at home, christening him Duoji Yongzhi. Their happy days don’t last very long, though, as a series of mysterious murders occurs on the prairies, and the scared villagers blame Duoji and want to kill him. With the help of his friend, Jing sneaks Duoji out to the snowy mountains, where they encounter the real culprit…
