Ever since he was a young boy, Horikoshi Jiro (voiced by director Anno Hideaki) has always been passionate about aviation, dreaming of flying in the sky with a plane that he created. The Wind Rises follows his journey, from being a small-time engineer in a field dominated by western countries to creating the renowned Zero fighter. Almost equal in Jiro’s love for aviation is his love for his wife Naoko, whom he had helped many years ago during the Great Kanto Earthquake.
