Produced in 2007 in commemoration of the Cannes Film Festival’s 60th anniversary, To Each His Own Cinema is an unprecedented anthology that brings together 35 leading directors of world cinema. The collection is comprised of 33 three-minute shorts revolving around the theme of cinema. Asian filmmakers Wong Kar Wai, Zhang Yimou, Chen Kaige, Hou Hsiao Hsien, Tsai Ming Liang, and Kitano Takeshi are represented in the anthology, along with directors like David Lynch, David Cronenberg, Gus Van Sant, Roman Polanski, Olivier Assayas, Lars Von Trier, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, Theo Angelopoulos, Andrei Konchalovsky, and Jane Campion.

Simply asked to express “their state of mind of the moment as inspired by the motion picture theater”, each director had free reign to create “his own cinema” and the resultant films are as varied as the nationalities of the directors onboard. From Kitano’s wry imaginary visit to a countryside cinema in One Fine Day to Hou Hsiao Hsien’s film house homage in The Electric Princess House to Zhang Yimou’s gentle depiction of rural children gathering for a screening in Movie Night, To Each His Own Cinema is a striking tribute to film from some of the greatest names in contemporary cinema.

First Press releases come with a bookmark booklet featuring remarks from the directors.

Note: The Joel and Ethan Coen short is not included in this release..
