Released in 2001, Vampire Controller is a throwback to the popular vampire horror-comedy genre best exemplified by the Mr. Vampire films starring Lam Ching Ying. Television star Gallen Lo stars as “corpse wrangler” John, a special Taoist corpse escort who uses white magic to guide undead bodies to their final resting place. Teamed with partner Wayne Lai, John is assigned to guide the corpse of Wong Ching (Jude Poyer), who was killed by nefarious forces bent on uncovering a secret letter hidden somewhere on his person. To that end, they hire black magician Ha La Chak to get Wong Ching’s body back, but the corpse wranglers are not about to ignore their duty. Complicating matters is a mysterious Japanese agent played by Joey Meng, and Wong Ching’s dead lover Jenny, who’s having her body wrangled by another pair of corpse wrangles (Kingdom Yuen and Kathy Chau). Even more, death doesn’t stop these corpses’ sex drives, so Wong Ching and Jenny are still lusting after one another in their undead forms! It’s sorcery and situation comedy as Vampire Controller brings this beloved and long-missed Hong Kong horror-genre to the twenty-first century!.
