The folk legend of Gumiho, the nine-tailed fox who wants to become human, first appeared in the 1994 film The Fox With Nine Tails, starring Go So Young and Jung Woo Sung. Twelve long years later, Lee Hyung Gon, the man responsible for the storyboard of one of Korea’s first real blockbusters, has come back, dedicating his debut film once again to those Gumiho. And this time, there’s a whole family of them! Full of musical sequences and wacky fun, The Fox Family stars Joo Hyun (All For Love), Park Si Yeon (Yeon Gaesomun and My Girl), and Ha Jung Woo (The Unforgiven and Time) as the bushy-tailed spirits, alongside Park Joon Kyu (My Wife is a Gangster 2) as a human detective.

A foolish but lovely father (Joo Hyun), a preppy and sexy daughter (Park Si Yeon), and a dorky son (Ha Jung Woo) make up the film’s titular fox family. The Gumiho family runs a circus and they all share one common dream: they want to become human. The problem is in order to complete the transition, they need to eat human liver. But times have changed, and now only little kids come to see the circus. All of a sudden a murder takes place, and finally an adult shows up in the form of a detective (Park Joon Kyu) investigating this strange family. You’d think all their problems would be solved, but the family takes a liking to what is supposed to become their next meal..

The biggest Korean movie of 2010, The Man From Nowhere has been both a commercial and critical hit, garnering over six million admissions at the box office and scores of accolades at the Blue Dragon, Daejong, and Korean Film Awards. Delivering the most representative performance of his career, Won Bin (Mother) won Best Actor at the Daejong and Korean Film Awards for his magnetic turn as a mysterious agent who goes to increasingly dangerous and desperate lengths to save a girl, played by award-winning child actress Kim Se Ron (Brand New Life). Four years after the acclaimed gangster drama Cruel Winter Blues, writer-director Lee Jeong Beom takes on the action thriller genre with a similar eye for humanity amid bloodshed, building the burgeoning violence around the protagonists’ unlikely friendship.

Tae Sik (Won Bin) runs a dusty pawn shop in a seedy neighborhood, and largely keeps to himself. The only person he’s befriended is So Mi (Kim Se Ron), a young girl who likes to take refuge in his shop. Trouble knocks on Tae Sik’s door when So Mi’s junkie mother comes in to pawn a camera bag – a bag full of stolen drugs. Gangsters tear up the pawn shop to get the drugs back, and Tae Sik finds out in the process that So Mi and her mother have been abducted. Tae Sik can only hunt down the mob himself to save So Mi, even if doing so reveals his own dark past..

Talking cars rediscover the quirky originality of middle America in this inventive animated film from the folks at Pixar (Toy Story, Finding Nemo). Owen Wilson does the voice of arrogant rookie racecar Lightning McQueen, who winds up stranded in the small desert town of Radiator Springs on his way west to a big showdown. Sentenced to community service after literally tearing up the road in a high-speed chase, at first all Lightning can think of is getting back to the world of corporate sponsorship and merchandising tie-ins he loves so well. Eventually, however, the eccentric residents of Radiator Springs begin to grow on him, especially the attractive lady Porsche lawyer (Bonnie Hunt) and a rusty old tow-truck (Larry the Cable Guy). There’s also a hippie Volkswagen (George Carlin), a low-riding T-bird (Cheech Martin) and Paul Newman as the gruff, curmudgeonly Doc Hudson, the town judge who harbors his own checkered-flag past. The story may not be new, but Pixar’s precision-engineered animation brilliantly illuminates the town and its surrounding cactus-studded vistas down to the minutest detail, and director/writer John Lasseter keeps the film’s satiric wit and generous heart in perfect alignment. Adults in the audience should appreciate the film’s celebration of old-school American eccentricity, and the kids will dig all the thunderous grit and high-octane wheel burning. Randy Newman composed the score; James Taylor sings one of the songs.

Jan Lamb, Eric Kot, and Karena Lam voice the Cantonese track of the movie..
