Like the Chinese Paladin series, Xuan Yuan Sword is based on a popular RPG game and stars Chinese Entertainment Shanghai’s (Tangren) go-to leading man Hu Ge, who also served as co-producer of the drama. Tangren’s top actresses Cecilia Liu Shishi and Tang Yan and rising stars Jiang Jingfu, Lin Gengxin, and Gulnazar co-star, along with a supporting cast that includes Ma Tianyu, Cecilia Yip, Cheng Pei Pei, Eddie Ko, Lawrence Ng, and Michelle Yim. Yuwen Tuo (Hu Ge), prince of the Northern Zhou, and Jing Chou (Jiang Jingfu), prince of the Chen, both lost their families and thrones as children when the Sui Dynasty defeated their kingdoms.
