Longtime actor Lo Lieh steps into the director’s chair for Clan of the White Lotus, an enjoyable semi-sequel/remake of Executioners from Shaolin that’s a charming kung fu extravaganza in its own right! Gordon Liu Chia-Hui (Kill Bill, 36th Chamber of the Shaolin) stars as Hung Wei-Ting, a young Shaolin disciple seeking to avenge the death of his blood brother and his fianc e, who both died at the hands of the evil White Lotus (Lo Lieh), chief of the White Lotus Clan. With the help of his best friend’s pregnant wife, Mei-Hsiao (Kara Hui Ying-Hung), Wei-Ting goes into hiding and tries to combine Tiger and Crane boxing (and later a more feminine style) to defeat the evil White Lotus. After two unsuccessful attempts, Wei-Ting nearly loses his life to White Lotus’s 100-Pace Punch, a fatal maneuver which kills its victim after one hundred steps. Once he recovers, Wei-Ting learns the secrets of acupressure, integrating this new technique into his own mishmash of disparate fighting styles to a new school of martial arts – embroidery kung fu! Confident in his abilities, Wei-Ting challenges White Lotus to a fight to the death, but will he be able to survive?
Boasting strong performances from Gordon Liu and Kara Hui, Clan of the White Lotus makes for winning martial arts entertainment.
