After the successful TV drama Plain Love, Gordon Lam (Election) takes up another unsophisticated, good-natured, and humane role in Country Spirit. He teams up with popular TV actresses Sheren Tang and Charmaine Sheh in this captivating series also set in the scenic Guangxi region in Mainland China where the shooting of Plain Love took place. Charmaine Sheh’s role as a woman of perseverance was elected fans’ favorite character among all TVB dramas in 2001.
Ah Chun (Gordon Lam), an illegitimate son of Ku Sai Lung (Paul Chun), takes up the most tedious tasks in Ku’s winery. He has a crush on Ku’s younger sister but the relationship does not work. Meanwhile, family members lose contact with Ku’s only son (Joe Ma) in the battlefield and everyone believes him to be dead. Ku thus arranges a “ghost marriage” according to the Chinese custom and a young girl Fung (Charmaine Sheh) becomes the wife of Ku’s deceased son. Soon after that Ku suffers from stroke and can no longer run the winery, which is then at risk because of internal power struggle. Fung and Chun finally tide the business through and they begin to fall in love with each other. Just then her supposedly-dead husband returns from the battlefield alive….
