Chinese cinema makes a major technical breakthrough with Don Quixote, the first Asian live-action film to be shot entirely with 3D technology. The director to take on the brave challenge is Big Movie director Agan, who was so pleased with the final product that he decided to make only 3D films after Don Quixote. Nevertheless, the fantasy epic – based on the classic Spanish legend – is filled with visuals so stunning that they are guaranteed to impress even on a normal, two-dimensional screen. Complementing the dizzying visual effects is a spirited performance by Guo Tao (Crazy Stone) as the titular character, and a supporting cast featuring Karena Lam, Monica Mok (Accident), and Miao Pu (Stool Pigeon).
In the new Chinese telling of the legend, Don Quixote – renamed Tang Ji (Guo Tao) – is one of the four Tang brothers. While his three brothers are all successful in their own right, Ji spends his days daydreaming about saving the world with his trusty servant (Wang Kang). On one of his “adventures”, Ji meets the beautiful Cui Hua (Karena Lam), who looks similar to Ji’s dream woman Princess Xiang Xiang. To get into her heart, Ji will go to the ends of the earth and defeat any challenge standing in his way – regardless of whether they’re real or not..
