An ambitious political comedy-drama examining the nation’s highest office, Good Morning President unfolds over a decade’s time in the Blue House, Korea’s presidential residence which is impressively recreated on screen. Beloved veteran actor Lee Seon Jae from family sitcom Unstoppable High Kick kicks off the political saga as outgoing president Kim Jeong Ho, who faces a grand old dilemma when he wins the lottery. He wants to keep the 24 billion won windfall instead of donating it to charity, but that’s not going to go down well with the public. Appearing in his first Korean film since 2005’s Typhoon, Jang Dong Gun is charismatic as ever as political whiz kid and single father Cha Ji Wook. Dubbed “Korea’s JFK”, the new president is soon tested by an escalation of tension between Japan and North Korea that becomes a diplomatic and potentially military problem for South Korea. In his spare time, he’s also courting his childhood sweetheart, the opposition party’s spokesperson Lee Yeon (Han Chae Young). In the film’s final segment, Ko Doo Sim (Family Ties) breaks barriers as the country’s first female head of state, but both her presidency and her marriage are at stake when her husband (Lim Ha Ryoung, Insadong Scandal) becomes embroiled in a corruption scandal..
