Renowned Hong Kong filmmaker Raymond Wong’s 80s classic series The Happy Ghost is reincarnated for today’s family and young audiences! With Ip Man‘s director Wilson Yip and writer Edmond Wong onboard, the fantasy comedy employs flashy visual effects and replaces the original’s friendly spirit from the Qing dynasty with feuding wizards who can give Harry Potter’s wand-waving friends a run for their money. Magic to Win stars popular actor Louis Koo (Overheard 2), Fahrenheit’s Wu Chun (My Kingdom), action star Wu Jing (SPL), Japan-based magician Tonny Jan, Mainland actress Yan Ni (Mural) in addition to Raymond Wong himself. The film also brings back series alumni Loletta Lee and Yip Sai Wing for a cameo, while introducing a new generation of “Happy Girls” led by teen model Karena Ng in her acting debut.
Nobody knows that Professor Hong Sum Kwai (Raymond Wong) is actually the Water Magician, one of the five elemental wizards. One day, Hong accidentally loses his magical powers, which are transferred to his student Cheng Meisi (Karena Ng). The girl happily uses the superhuman abilities she acquired by luck in life, at school, and on the volleyball court, but those powers also land her in trouble as a war of wizardry rages around her… Fire Magician Bi Yewu (Wu Jing) is desperate to turn back time to change a tragedy in the past, but to do so he needs to bring together the powers of all five elemental wizards. Wood Magician Gu Xinyue (Louis Koo) foresees catastrophe if time is warped, so he alerts the other wizards – including Earth Magician Ling Feng (Wu Chun) and Metal Magician Charlie (Tonny Jan) – to join forces and prevent it from happening….
