Pop singer Juno Mak has always proclaimed himself to be a fan of ultra-violent exploitation films. Thanks to Josie Ho’s 852 Films, which is quickly becoming the go-to solution for Hong Kong audiences thirsting for local alternative genre films after Dream Home, Mak now has the chance to make his own ultra-violent film with “Revenge” A Love Story. Co-written and directed by Wong Ching Po (Jiang Hu) – based on a story by Juno – this stylish action thriller stars Mak as an innocent man who is driven to extreme violence to avenge the love of his life, played by Japanese adult film actress Aoi Sola. Despite the brutal violence on display throughout the film, it is ultimately at heart a sweet romance shattered by the darkness of human nature. One of the two opening films at the 2010 Hong Kong Asian Film Festival, “Revenge” A Love Story is a disturbing revenge thriller no viewer will easily forget.
A serial murderer has brutally killed several policemen and their pregnant wives. After a quick investigation, the murderer is revealed to be Kit (Juno Mak), whom the case’s detective-in-charge (Chin Siu Ho) knows from a previous case. Once upon a time, Kit was an innocent boy in a rural village who also has a crush on na ve high school student Wing (Aoi Sola). After the death of Wing’s grandmother, Kit rescues Wing from a foster care facility, and the two quickly fall in love. However, their romance ends prematurely when a local policeman arrests them. The events that follow lay the seeds for Kit’s terrifying path to vengeance.
