Hong Kong’s biggest television drama of 2007 is no doubt TVB’s 40-episode grand modern drama Heart of Greed. Dominating television ratings during its two-month run, the series became the talk of the town with its absorbing, twist-filled tale of family feud, tangled romance, and backstabbing power struggle. Heart of Greed‘s story and characters captured the attention of Hong Kong in a way that has been nary seen in years as audiences and news media eagerly followed the rising and waning tides of the Tong clan and their fierce inheritance battle over the family fortune.
The popularity of Heart of Greed was bolstered by the large ensemble cast of top stars including Moses Chan, Bosco Wong, Raymond Lam, Linda Chung, Tavia Yeung, Yoyo Mung, and Fala Chen. The real show, however, belonged to the veterans: Ha Yue, Michelle Yim, and in particular Susanna Kwan Guk Ying and Louise Lee Sze Kei, whose biting dialogue and verbal catfights in the drama earned a following all its own. Unsurprisingly, Heart of Greed came out on top at the 2007 TVB Anniversary Awards, winning Best Drama, Leading Actor, and Leading Actress.
