The directorial debut of webtoon artist Yang Woo Suk, the film features an enormous performance from Song Kang Ho as a civil rights lawyer fighting an oppressive government. Set in eighties Busan during the authoritarian regime of Chun Doo Hwan, the film is based on the Burim case of 1981 when 19 people were illegally arrested and tortured. Directed by Park Chan Kyong, who previously co-directed the shorts Day Trip and Night Fishing with brother Park Chan Wook, Manshin: Ten Thousand Spirits is an innovative documentary about the life and times of Korea’s top shaman Kim Keum Hwa. Born in North Korea in 1931, Kim Keum Hwa became a shaman at the age of 17. From then on she and her homeland would experience many ups and downs, as the film intertwines Kim’s personal stories with important events of modern Korean history. Shunned and scorned for her calling in her younger years, Kim would eventually rise to great cultural prominence as South Korea’s “national shaman.”

True to Park Chan Kyong’s roots as a visual artist, Manshin: Ten Thousand Spirits is anything but a straightforward documentary, weaving together archive footage, shamanistic ritual performances, animation as well as dramatic reenactments with actresses Kim Sae Ron, Ryu Hyun Kyung and Moon So Ri into a unique cinematic treat. The film offers not only a fascinating biography of one uncommon woman’s life against turbulent times, but also a stunning meditation on past and present, mystical and modern, in the context of Korean culture and history.

Follow the trials, trysts, and tribulations of four beautiful singles feeling the pinch of growing up in smash hit Korean comedy Singles from director Kwon Chil In (Hellcats). Tapping into the psyche of Korea’s young adults, this sharp, intelligent and sexy comedy confronts the issues of growing up and taking responsibility with wit and style. Featuring a beautiful, talented cast and shot through with a knowing and hip sense of humor, it is no surprise that Singles was one of Korea’s biggest hits of 2003.

After Na Nan (Jang Jin Young, Over the Rainbow) loses her job and her boyfriend in the same day, she has only one place to turn to, her best friends Dong Mi (the gorgeous Uhm Jung Hwa, For Horowitz) and Jung Joon (Lee Bum Soo, The City of Violence). These three friends have supported each other since childhood and must now face the daunting World of single life, and the anxieties surrounding it, as they fast approach 30.

Dong Mi is the antithesis of the shy and vulnerable Na Nan. She knows what she wants and she knows how to get it. A serial man-eater, she’s had 46 lovers and counting – and she couldn’t care less who knows about it. Jung Joon, on the other hand, is anything but a player. He spends his days doting on his younger girlfriend, much to his friends’ dismay, until she unceremoniously dumps him for another man anyway. However, his refreshingly kind-hearted nature is not lost on Dong Mi – until one night of reckless passion forces them to re-evaluate their relationship.

Meanwhile, Na Nan is experiencing problems of her own. Forced to take a restaurant manager’s job that she hates, she must then contend with “Mr. Charm” Soo Heon (Kim Joo Hyuk, My Wife Got Married), who appears on the scene and sets his sights squarely on her. Who ever said single life was easy?.
