TVB made a big splash in 2005 with the hit series The Academy, and two years later, the police cadets were back On the First Beat for more hot-blooded crimefighting action! Reprising their popular roles at the center of the story, Ron Ng and Sammul Chan are now rookie cops fresh out of the academy, and they are teamed up with a host of old and new characters. TVB actors Michael Tao, Sonija Kwok, Kate Tsui, Gordon Liu, Kara Hui, Lam Ka Wah, and Selena Li join the cast along with pop stars Joey Yung, Kenny Kwan, and Yan Ng. The first series’ Fiona Sit, Tavia Yeung, Deep Ng, Zac Kao, Chin Ka Lok, Michelle Yim, and Michael Miu also return for cameo appearances.

Chung Lap Man (Ron Ng) and Lee Pak Kiu (Sammul Chan) have now graduated from the police academy and become police constables stationed at the same precinct. In an operation, Kiu’s girlfriend Lam (Fiona Sit) is gunned down by a ruthless gangster, and Kiu blames Man for her sacrifice, causing a rift in their friendship. Half a year later, they are introduced to their new superior, the tough sergeant Cheung King Fung (Michael Tao), whom they recognize as one of the criminals in that botched operation… Amidst crime-busting missions and training for admission into the PTU (Police Tactical Unit), Kiu gets into a rivalry with Fung over the affection of his ex-wife Winnie (Sonija Kwok), while Man begins dating Fung’s sister Yan (Joey Yung) despite the unabashed expression of admiration from his cousin Ching (Kate Tsui)….
