With great power comes great perversity in HK Hentai Kamen, the live-action adaptation of the 1992 manga by Ando Keishu. Written and directed by Kodomo Keisatsu creator Fukuda Yuichi (with script assistance by actor/self-proclaimed HK fan Oguri Shun), the hilarious superhero comedy stars a high school student who gets superhero powers when he puts on female underwear and a skimpy costume. Using his super perverted moves (a more detailed description will make anyone blush), the hero known as “Hentai Kamen” is determined to protect a female classmate he’s in love with. Filled with silly, borderline tasteless and perverse visual gags, Hentai Kamen has been a cult hit in its native Japan and Taiwan.

The son of a masochistic detective father and an S&M worker mother, high school student Kyosuke (Suzuki Ryohei) discovers that he gains superpower when he puts female underwear on his face. Calling himself “Hentai Kamen” (Pervert Mask), Kyosuke uses his superpowers to fight bullies in the name of justice. Most of all, Ryosuke wants to use his perverted powers to protect his classmate Aiko from their evil teacher..

While Miyazaki Hayao is the undisputed master of grand, sweeping animated epics, Studio Ghibli co-founder Takahata Isao excels in sensitive storytelling and delicately capturing human emotions and experiences. In films like Grave of the Fireflies, Pom Poko, and Only Yesterday, the acclaimed director shows his ability to express a range of sentiments and experiences, and astutely portray the bittersweet changes of life. In his films, one can always find a sense of quiet sincerity and social responsibility. His 1999 work My Neighbors the Yamadas, his last feature film to date, is the simplest, and perhaps most charming, offering to come from Studio Ghibli.

Based on Ishii Hisaichi’s comic strip Nono-chan, the film details a series of amusing episodes in the lives of the quirky, yet normal Yamada family. Cooking curry again, getting lost at the mall, studying for exams, gossiping at a restaurant, visiting the hospital, conversations, arguments, memories – the film winkingly and meanderingly observes the daily goings of the family, with a gentle touch of humor and humanity. Retaining the comic’s aesthetic, the animation is rendered in simple strokes and bathed in soft colors, with back-to-the-basics line drawings that are mischievously expressive. My Neighbors the Yamadas offers a completely different visual experience than other Studio Ghibli films, while retaining that same Ghibli magic.

Three years after the blockbuster live-action film, Rurouni Kenshin returns to the big screen with not one, but two live-action feature films! Shot back-to-back together, the two Rurouni Kenshin sequels titled Kyoto Inferno and The Legend Ends, respectively are based on the popular “Kyoto arc” of the series, chronicling Kenshin’s battle against Shishio Makoto, a scorned assassin who plans to overthrow the government that betrayed him. In addition to Sato Takeru and Takei Emi returning to their respective roles of Kenshin and Kaoru, Kyoto Inferno also adds Fujiwara Tatsuya (Kaiji) as the evil Shishio and Ryunosuke Kamiki (The Kirishima Thing) as Shishio’s powerful henchman. Returning as action director, Tanigaki Kenji ups the ante with fierce action sequences that will leave audiences breathless.

After the events of the first film, former assassin Himura Kenshin (Sato Takeru) has been living in peace in the dojo run by Kaoru (Takei Emi). However, the peace is broken when Shishio Makoto (Fujiwara Tatsuya) rises up as a powerful force against the Meiji government. A dangerous and ruthless assassin, Shishio was recruited by the government to help defeat the shogunate after Kenshin took his pacifist vow. However, after the Meiji government won the battle, the authorities tried to kill Shishio by burning him alive, leaving him with permanent burn damage all over his body. Seeking revenge for the betrayal, the disfigured Shishio plans to slowly take over the country, from one town to another. With no other choice, the government recruits Kenshin to hunt down Shishio and his gang. After some consideration, Kenshin agrees to travel to Kyoto to stop Shishio for the sake of maintaining peace in the new Japan..
