The landmark 1974 animated series Space Battleship Yamato finally gets a live-action treatment nearly four decades after its premiere, and what better director to take that job than Yamazaki Takashi? A leading special effects wizard before becoming a filmmaker, Yamazaki has made a successful career out of seamlessly combining computer-generated spectacle and genuinely touching human drama in films like the Always – Sunset on Third Street series and Ballad. In addition to directing, Yamazaki also oversaw the groundbreaking computer-generated special effects, which is featured in 80% of the film to convincingly bring the Yamato world to life.

Leading the epic space adventure is SMAP member/Asian superstar Kimura Takuya (Hero) as the heroic Kodai Susumu, who commands the titular space battleship into a war against a powerful enemy in outer space. Joining Kimura is a star-studded cast that includes Kuroki Meisa (Crows Zero), Yanagiba Toshiro (Bayside Shakedown), Nishida Toshiyuki (The Magic Hour), Maiko (Yama no Anata), Yamazaki Tsutomu (Departures), and Ikeuchi Hiroyuki (Ip Man). One of the highest-grossing Japanese films of 2010, Space Battleship Yamato is an exciting sci-fi spectacular for audiences of all ages!

How are you my brother? This is my last letter to you.

Based on a work by renowned Naoki prize-winning author Higashino Keigo, Tegami, a.k.a Letter, is a tale of brotherhood and reconciliation, presenting the aftermath of violent crime from a perspective rarely covered in film – the perpetrator’s family. Perhaps best known for his leading performance in the film Train Man, Yamada Takayuki, who also appeared in the drama adaptation of Higashino’s Byakuyako, takes on a completely different kind of role in Tegami. Yamada stars as a troubled young man who faces scorn and ostracism because of the crimes of his older brother, sensitively portrayed by Tamayama Tetsuji (Heaven’s Bookstore). Rising actress Sawajiri Erika (1 Litre no Namida), continuing her effortless conquest of Japanese entertainment, plays Yamada’s love. Jiro Shono, director of such popular TV dramas as Beautiful Life, helms his first feature film in 16 years, and Tegami reflects that restrained yet sentimental quality familiar to Japanese dramas, with a second half that may elicit more than a few drops of tears.

Twenty-year-old Naoki (Yamada Takayuki) lives in the shadow of his brother (Tamayama Tetsuji), who is serving a prison sentence for murder. With his brother imprisoned, Naoki continues to work hard to support himself, but the life he knows has abandoned him. Carrying the cross of being a “murderer’s brother”, Naoki is constantly discriminated against at work and by his neighbors. Shutting himself away from other people, Naoki slowly begins to resent his brother, and stops returning his letters. But his brother continues to write to him, adding to Naoki’s anger. During these difficult times, the only light that shines for him is Yumiko (Sawajiri Erika), who helps him remember the dreams he has given up..

It’s once more into the fray for Matsuda Shota, who returns to the Liar Game without co-star Toda Erika for the first time in Liar Game – Reborn, the second film based on Kaitani Shinobu’s popular manga. Resetting the game two years after the end of The Final Stage, the creators have set up a new Liar Game with new rules and the same consequences: a big payday for the winner, and a mountain of debt for the 19 other losers. This time, Matsuda’s master schemer character Akiyama is joined by Shinomiya (played by Tabe Mikako, Kimi ni Todoke), who needs his help to defeat the new “musical chairs” game created by the mysterious Omega (television actress Esumi Makiko) and Alice (Japan’s sweetheart Ashida Mana).

As revenge for the events at the end of Liar Game – The Final Stage, the Liar Game authorities have created the game’s most difficult challenge yet. After much-needed convincing by young college student Shinomiya (Tabe Mikako), former con artist/Liar Game player Akiyama (Matsuda Shota) also agrees to return to play for the two billion yen prize. However, not even Akiyama’s experience with the game can prepare him for what game runners Omega (Esumi Makiko) and Alice (Ashida Mana) have in store for the 20 players..
