Top J-pop idol group Arashi’s hit variety shows come to DVD for the first time!

Since 2002, Arashi has been entertaining the Japanese audience with their late night variety shows. Full of hilarious moments and insightful segments, Arashi’s shows have gone through various incarnations, but are always audience favorites. In C no Arashi (“Claiming Arashi”), aired from July 2002 to June 2003, the boys go to various companies to handle different claims. In D no Arashi (“Documentary Arashi”), aired from fall 2004 to August 2005, the boys divide into competing teams to accomplish different tasks. In G no Arashi (“Ganbare Arashi”), which just finished its broadcast run in September, Arashi assists people from different sectors of society. A new show titled Arashi no Syukudai kun (“Homework for Arashi”) hits small screens in October, but those feeling nostalgic for classic Arashi are in for a treat with C x D x G no Arashi.

From 1972 to 1983, legendary manga artist Tezuka Osamu wrote his own take on the life of Siddhartha Gautama (who later becomes Buddha) with the Buddha manga series. Now, anime director-producer Morishita Kozo (Saint Seiya, Dragonball Z) adapts the entire series into an epic theatrical anime trilogy. The Great Departure is the first installment, and it reorganizes the manga’s narrative to tell two stories – the life of Siddhartha as a young prince, and the journey of Chapra, a slave of lower caste who becomes a soldier.

Matsumoto Hitoshi takes pleasure to new extremes with R100, the popular comedian’s fourth directorial effort. The surreal dark comedy stars Omori Nao (Helter Skelter) as a furniture salesman enters an S&M club that specializes in giving clients their kind of pleasure by having leather-clad dominatrixes appear at random places. Matsumoto has put together an eclectic cast of actress for his team of dominatrixes, including Terajima Shinobu (Caterpillar), model Tominaga Ai, Sato Eriko (Goemon), Katakiri Hairi (Seagull Diner) and Watanabe Naomi. The R100 in the title refers to the Japanese censorship system, suggesting that the film is so extreme that only those over 100 years old can see the film.

To satisfy his masochistic sexual needs, Takafumi (Omori Nao) signs a yearlong contract with a mysterious S&M club. For a fee, the club will send a leather-clad dominatrix to random places and offer him sexual pleasure by committing humiliating acts of abuse. However, the acts gradually become increasingly extreme and outlandish over time, to the point that they come close to ruining Takafumi’s life. Takafumi tries to get out of his contract, but the club assures him that he is literally and figuratively bound to it. Suddenly, an accident will change everything.
